  Ward named summer league MVP

Echo Sports - (8/19/04)

University of Central Arkansas senior Barrett Ward was recently named the Most Valuable Player in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League.

Playing for the Lehigh Valley Catz in Easton, Pa., Ward hit .336 (third in the league), tied for second in hits with 46 and was 25 of 25 on stolen base attempts. Ward, a senior from Des Arc, was team captain of the 2004 Valley Catz in his second season with the squad.

The ACBL is an NCAA-sanctioned summer league for college baseball players.

Ward, the Gulf South Conference West Freshman of the Year in 2002, was the only player in the ACBL this year with at least 20 runs scored, 20 RBIs and 20 stolen bases. He led all second basemen with a .978 fielding percentage, with only four errors in 175 chances.

Ward finished his career with the Valley Catz with 85 hits, putting him second on the all-time list.
