Echo Sports (8/17/04)

The University of Central Arkansas women's soccer team defeated the Little Rock Futbol Club 3-1 in their 2004 exhibition opener on Monday evening.

Sophomore forward Shelby Vadjunec came off the bench to score a goal and register an assist for the Bears. UCA outshot LRFC 19-6 for the game and 11-2 in the second half.

Megan Russell opened the scoring with a goal for LRFC in the 11th minute. The Bears tied the game up just six minutes later when junior Kelsy Milstead found an open Vadjunec.

Sophomore Alisha Pulis and Vadjunec combined to find junior Miranda Broadney for the game winning strike in the 59th minute. Alisha Pulis recorded her second assist of the game with a pass to sophomore Heather Hudacko, who drove past a Little Rock defender, to give the Bears the 3-1 victory.

UCA will face NCAA Division I opponent Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday, August 21 at 4 p.m. in Little Rock for their final exhibition game.

The Bears' home opener is on Thursday, August 26 against regional foe Florida Southern. Game time will be at 4 p.m.
