Ward named summer league MVP

University of Central Arkansas senior Barrett
Ward was recently named the Most Valuable Player in the Atlantic Collegiate
Baseball League.
Playing for the Lehigh Valley Catz in Easton, Pa., Ward hit .336 (third in the
league), tied for second in hits with 46 and was 25 of 25 on stolen base
attempts. Ward, a senior from Des Arc, was team captain of the 2004 Valley Catz
in his second season with the squad.
The ACBL is an NCAA-sanctioned summer league for college baseball players.

decision to Arkansas-Monticello in the finale of their Gulf South Conference
series on Sunday.

team wins 2 at GSC Crossover

The UCA softball team got a
pair of victories this weekend in the GSC crossover. Friday's victim was West
Alabama. UCA edged past UWA 7-6 by way of a winning run scored at the top of the
seventh.

Since the junior from Moore, Okla. started playing softball at UCA as a
freshman, she has been given awards other college players only dream of earning.
She was the 2002 Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Year.

sweeps Ouachita Baptist

The UCA Bears baseball team made it three
straight over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers on Sunday, winning 9-2 in the Gulf
South Conference series finale at Rab Rodgers Field.

The Bears (19-17, 8-4) totaled 16 hits and starter Jeremy Mason went six strong
innings as the Bears won their fourth consecutive game. Mason allowed eight hits
and two runs in six innings and got scoreless relief from Dustin Johnson (one
inning) and Zach Barnett (two innings).
OBU (10-18, 0-9) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first but the Bears
answered quickly and decisively with five runs in the top of the second. Bubba
Dickens doubled to lead off the inning and was bunted to third. Roger Lenderman
grounded out to score Dickens.
Robbie Nix then singled to left and back-to-back bunt singles by Drew Sadler and
Barrett Ward preceded a two-run single by Wes Sanford. Zak Clark then doubled to
score two more and make it 5-1. more

Softball team gets win
Freshman
Natalie Faulkner came one out away from a no-hitter last Thursday, but the UCA
softball Bears still dropped a non-conference softball doubleheader to Lynn
University.

Baseball wins two of three at Harding
The UCA baseball team squandered a chance for their
second straight conference sweep Sunday when Harding’s Justin Cone hit a pair of
home runs to help the Bisons win the final game of a three-game series, winning
7-6 at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.
